I’ve spent more than ten years pastoring in one of the most secular countries in the world — Australia. It was there, sitting with teens who no longer trusted religion, parents who were heartbroken over disengaged kids, and adults carrying spiritual wounds, that I realized something deeply important:

People aren’t walking away from God. They’re walking away from the way God has been presented.

So many had grown up hearing about a God who was angry, demanding, or waiting to judge them. Others carried fear from end-time messages that felt more like anxiety triggers than good news. Many simply couldn’t relate to outdated language, charts, timelines, or “churchy” explanations that didn’t make sense in their world.

What they were really longing for was a picture of God that looked like Jesus.

That realization changed everything for me.
